A native of Detroit’s notorious East Side, 42 Dugg began rapping while serving a six-year prison sentence he started at age 15 for carjacking, which was later extended due to prison fights. During two separate months in solitary confinement, he spent time honing his lyrics and perfecting his rhymes. Upon release, he launched his rap career with the 2018 single “Mama I’m Sorry” and continued self-releasing music, including the 11241 Wayburn mixtape, while collaborating with local Detroit talents like Babyface Ray and the 42 Twinz. His early singles, including “The Streets,” caught the attention of Yo Gotti, who signed him to his Collective Music Group (CMG) label alongside a joint deal with Lil Baby’s 4PF label. This propelled 42 Dugg into the national spotlight, leading to his debut album Young and Turnt, featuring collaborations with Yo Gotti, Lil Baby, Blac Youngsta, Babyface Ray, Tee Grizzley, and Peewee Longway, followed by the freestyle-based Young & Turnt 2. His next project, Free Dem Boys, explored themes of legal freedom and loyalty, with tracks like “Free RIC (feat. Lil Durk)” and “Judge Please.” In 2022, he collaborated with EST Gee on “Thump Shit” and “Everybody Shooters Too.” Recently, 42 Dugg celebrated his release from incarceration with a sold-out homecoming show at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit featuring Meek Mill, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Jeezy, and more. Known for his raw, unfiltered lyricism, 42 Dugg continues to tour, collaborate, and release new music, solidifying his fast rise in the rap industry.
