Ed Sheeran, born Edward Christopher Sheeran on February 17, 1991, in Halifax, England, has become one of the most successful and influential singer-songwriters of the modern era, a once-in-a-generation artist whose heartfelt storytelling, genre-blending creativity, and global reach have made him one of the best-selling musicians in history. Growing up in Framlingham, Suffolk, Sheeran taught himself guitar and began writing songs early, moving to London as a teenager to pursue music, building a grassroots following through relentless gigs and online platforms. His breakthrough came in 2011 with + (Plus) and the hit single “The A Team,” earning him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. Success accelerated with x (Multiply) in 2014, topping charts worldwide and producing the Grammy-winning smash “Thinking Out Loud.” By 2017, ÷ (Divide) debuted at number one in 14 countries, spawning megahits “Shape of You” and “Perfect,” with “Shape of You” becoming the best-selling digital single ever and a Spotify streaming record breaker. Sheeran’s ÷ Tour (2017–2019) became the highest-grossing tour of all time, earning $775 million and selling over 8.9 million tickets, showcasing his unique ability to connect with audiences using only his voice, guitar, and loop pedal. He has collaborated with top artists including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, and Andrea Bocelli, while his 2019 No.6 Collaborations Project and later albums = (Equals) and – (Subtract) highlight his versatility and personal depth. With 4 Grammys, 7 Brit Awards, an MBE, and over 150 million records sold, Sheeran has redefined pop music, blending folk-inspired storytelling with contemporary pop and R&B, all while remaining humble, philanthropic, and intimately connected to fans around the world, cementing his place as one of the defining artists of the 21st century.
