About Meek Mill

Meek Mill is known for his brutally honest street rap musical expression that has remained as tough as ever even after platinum-selling mainstream success. Born in1987 as Robert Rihmeek Williams, life was hard from an early age. Meek and his older sister grew up in an apartment in North Philadelphia being raised by his mother, after his father died during an attempted robbery when Meek was just five years old. His early musical influence came through his father’s brother, who was a DJ in the 80’s. This relationship with his uncle is what provided him the exposure to music which naturally led to it becoming his emotional outlet. He remembers late nights staying up filling notebooks writing lyrics in bed before school, the rhymes he would later draw from. He was part of founding the rap group Bloodhoundz with three other rap friends. Bloodhoundz released four mixtapes while Meek also released his first three solo mixtapes The Real Me, The Real Me 2 and Flamers between 2006-2008. It wasn’t long till Mill drew the attention of multiple labels, pursuing him to sign a contract. Among multiple offers, including from Warner Bros. Records, Meek decided to go with T.I. 's label Grand Hustle Records citing the “opportunity of a lifetime” to work with him being impossible to pass up. His opportunity to collaborate had to take an unexpected delay when Meek was sentenced to time in prison for a drug and gun charge. His rap career resumed after his release in 2009 with the third installment of the Flamers series with Flamers 3: The Wait Is Over. The track “Rosé Red” from this mixtape ended up later being remixed with a verse from Rick Ross and Vado. Meek Mill’s first massive success arrived in 2011 with the release of Self-Made Vol. 1 and the breakthrough track “Ima Boss” (feat. Rick Ross). As this was a collective Maybach Music Group production, Meek Mill’s proper solo debut arrived with Dreams and Nightmares the following year and then achieving the pinnacle of success by reaching the top of the Billboard 200 chart for the first time with his subsequent album, Dreams Worth More Than Money (2015), which included two multi-platinum hits. Meek Mill's Wins and Losses (2017) marked a new area of expression, particularly addressing the issue of the school-to-prison pipeline, a topic deeply intertwined with his own life experiences. His next release, Championships (2018), further solidified his status, featuring the chart-topping and multi-platinum hit "Going Bad", which earned him his first Grammy nomination. With Expensive Pain (2021), Meek continued his streak of albums charting in the Top Five, reaching a total of five in a row. Collaborating again with Ross on Too Good to Be True (2023), Meek achieved his 17th Hot 100 single as a lead artist with the track "Shaq & Kobe”. Some of his top streaming tracks include the over 1 billion Spotify streams smash hit “Going Bad” (feat. Drake), “All Eyes on You” (feat. Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj), “R.I.C.O.” (feat. Drake), and “Blue Notes”. Meek Mill is a powerhouse in the rap game who has also used his influence to shape reform, especially regarding the legal system. He was included as a founding member of the Reform Alliance, alongside Jay-Z, sports owner Robert Kraft and many others who have collectively pledged $50 million towards criminal justice system reform. Meek Mill is now a Philadelphia rap legend and national star who will continue to create and release more music with his authentic and raw rhymes.
