About Mt. Joy
Mt. Joy, is an American indie rock band that has created a dedicated mainstream following. Their blend of rock, indie folk and psychedelic inspiration creates a combination for easy and interesting listening. The five-piece group consists of Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar), Sam Cooper (guitar), Sotiris Eliopoulos (drums), Jackie Miclau (keyboards), and Michael Byrnes (bass). Formed by founding members Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper, the group’s name is inspired by a mountain nearby their hometown of Valley Forge, PA. Quinn and Cooper’s musical journey began together in high school in Philadelphia. Though they parted ways for years, they reunited in Los Angeles in 2016 to form Mt. Joy. They met future bandmate Michael Byrnes on Craigslist who introduced them to his roommate producer Caleb Nelson. Together with Nelson, they recorded four tracks under the Mt. Joy name. Their single "Astrovan" gained traction online, surpassing three million streams, and the band made the decision to quit their day jobs and law school to form a full-time band. In 2017, they followed up with the successful singles "Sheep," "Cardinal," and "Silver Lining," which helped solidify their growing reputation for catchy melodies and memorable lyrics. This led them to sign with Dualtone Records, releasing their debut album in 2018. The success of their first releases launched them onto the festival circuit where they were able to introduce new fans to their impressive musicality and the fun balance between improv and familiarity which highlights their performances. Their next release in 2020, Rearrange Us, cracked the Billboard 200 Pop Chart at number 197. They continued a tour with The Lumineers until it was ended early by COVID-19. The following year they released their first live performance set, joining the long list of albums named: Live at Red Rocks. Their 2022 album Orange Blood, expanded their sound further with popular tracks such as “Ruins”, “Roly Poly”, “Evergreen” and the title track. In 2023, Mt. Joy continued their busy touring schedule, opening for Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds at their Riviera Maya Festival in February. The band also performed at various festivals, including the Innings Festival and Boston Calling. The band returned in 2024 with the emotionally charged single "Highway Queen." Later that year, they headlined the Levitate Music and Arts Festival and also released Live at The Salt Shed, showcasing their epic set at the iconic Chicago venue. Most recently, Mt. Joy released a special Christmas single, “Santa Drives an Astrovan”, a fun festive spin on their hit song. From their humble beginnings to their current status as indie rock mainstays, Mt. Joy will continue to grow a dedicated following with their introspective lyrics, captivating live performances, and ever-expanding musical evolution.
