About Willow

Willow Smith grew up in the celebrity spotlight, starring in I Am Legend with her father Will Smith at just seven years old and then Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. Joining her mother’s nu-metal band Wicked Wisdom on tour from ages 3-7, Willow Smith’s music taste began forming early. She exploded into the music scene with her viral single and music video “Whip My Hair.” This catapulted her into music mega-fame and a busy touring schedule at just ten years old. The smash hit also got her signed to Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation, making her the youngest artist ever signed to the label. In protest of going on tour with Justin Bieber in Australia and in defiance of her parents, she cut her hair in the middle of the night while her parents were sleeping, ending the “Whip My Hair” tour. She bravely came out publicly about a period in her life in her early teens when she used self-harm as an escape from the overwhelming reality of fame at a young age. She describes the point when she realized the unhealthy abuse for what it was, “this is pointless - my body is a temple” and immediately stopped. WILLOW shared this very personal and sensitive truth about her story to serve as an inspiration for others that struggle with similar issues. WILLOW’s desire to use her life to help others heal extends to her music, which is a unique blend of pop-punk, hip-hop/rap and R&B. WILLOW draws personal inspiration from groups such as My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Fall Out Boy and more. In 2020, WILLOW partnered with Tyler Cole to release THE ANXIETY featuring the song Meet Me At Our Spot. The following year they released a live version of the hit single with an objectively adorable selfie of the two of them as the cover art. Recently, she has released music with some of her influences Travis Barker, Avril Lavigne and Kid Cudi on tracks such as Gaslight, G R O W, and t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l. WILLOW also joined MGK to release emo girl, opening for him at his sold-out show at PNC Arena in his hometown of Cleveland Ohio. WILLOW’s latest release, <COPINGMECHANISM>, finds her delving deeper into emo-pop, a fitting medium for her to tell the darker parts of her story such as struggle with relationships and difficult emotions. For her album release, WILLOW invited fans to share what coping mechanisms they use that help themselves in their own lives at an event at Rough Trade in Rockefeller Center. The release party highlighted the sense of community and encouragement to heal that her music provides her fans, as she met them all with a smile, danced together and signed copies of her new album. Fans continue to keep close watch as WILLOW always pushes her music in new directions with her pioneering stylistic courage, unique blends of different genres and vulnerable lyrics.
